Government launches tender for urban farming
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is partnering with the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to launch tenders to farm vegetables and other food crops, and activities like packing and storing produce on rooftops of multi-storey car parks. The urban farming sites include five individual sites (Choa Chu Kang, Tampines, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh) and two cluster sites (Sembawang and another at Jurong West). According to the SFA and HDB, the individual sites will be used to testbed innovative ideas while cluster sites will enable production at scale and encourage cost savings. The movement is part of Singapore’s plans to produce 30% of its nutritional needs locally by 2030.
