28 days following the last confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), Brazil has declared its farms officially free of the disease. After being hit with a wave of import suspensions from key trade partners, the Brazilian government is eager to reclaim the country’s spot as the world’s largest poultry exporter, though some importing nations remain unconvinced.
While countries like The Philippines and Singapore were quick to reverse their limitations on Brazilian poultry, others such as China, Malaysia and the EU remain wary, keeping their suspensions in place until further notice. The Brazilian government has announced that they are ready to begin discussions with such parties, hoping to see a total lifting of import suspensions.
