Greg Tyler, Vice President of Marketing, USAPEEC, gave a presentation during the Philippines Association of Meat Processors, Inc. (PAMPI) Conference on September 22, 2017. He covered key USAPEEC’s activities around the world, as well as U.S. poultry and egg production and exports. The presentation received considerable exposure from the Philippines media including the Business Mirror, highlighting Mr. Tyler’s statements that the Philippines is one of the top ten export markets for U.S. broiler meat importing 90,495 metric tons in 2016 a jump of 26 per cent over the previous year. Mr. Tyler also mentioned during his presentation that the biggest U.S. poultry export markets were Mexico, Hong Kong, and China in descending order. Other sizeable markets include Angola, Canada (although Canada is a major competitor) Iraq, and Central America.

Mr. Tyler, who is on a supervisory and marketing trip covering several Asian countries, expressed concern that the recent outbreaks of Avian Influenza (AI) resulted in an import ban on U.S. poultry over the last two years. However, most of the chicken markets have since opened up. He also addressed other concerns including strict regulations on Halal requirements as well as on anti-microbial resistance. Mr. Tyler called for improved guidelines for AI – trade restrictions which should be based on the principles of risk analysis and proper assessment of risks by all importing countries.

Prior to the PAMPI Conference, Greg Tyler and Margaret Say, USAPEEC ASEAN Director, met with local importers who acknowledged the support of USAPEEC through the latter’s educational seminars on food safety and hygiene and as well as its retail and menu promotions over the years.
