Margaret Say, USAPEEC ASEAN Director, visited Hanoi to attend the opening of the new APHIS office by APHIS Deputy Administrator, Ms. Cheryle Blakely, U.S. Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, and Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Tran Thanh Nam.
Agricultural trade between the two countries is growing rapidly and establishment of the APHIS office in Hanoi will ensure that existing trade between the U.S. and Vietnam flow smoothly as result of a better understanding and management of issues arising out of isolated outbreaks of bird and animal diseases.
In addition, the establishment of the APHIS office in Vietnam will allow the maintenance of a close technical working relationship between the United States and Vietnam, as well as direct contact with industry trade groups, importers, and exporters. This is in place to assist and facilitate resolution of trade-related issues when they arise at Vietnamese ports of entry.
