photo: 7-Go-Green Prototype Store

Tucked away on the outskirts of Bangkok is a 7-Go-Green concept store, a prototype 7-Eleven store, constructed to trial a “green” outlet managed by a real-time digital monitoring system.

Customers driving electric cars may use the EV parking station located outside the store to charge their cars while grabbing a quick bite inside. Heat insulated glass panel windows from floor to ceiling reduce power consumption by the store’s air-conditioning system. A metallic roof helps to reflect some of the heat from the sun while PE foam ceiling provides the insulation for the shop’s air-conditioned interior from heated roof. A real-time retail monitoring system tracks and monitors the store’s power consumption by regulating its air-conditioning, lighting, and cooling refrigeration system and in the process ensure all food and drinks are stored within an appropriate temperature range to achieve freshness during their respective shelf lives. While chilled ready-to-eat packaged meals such as green chicken curry on rice or basil chicken on rice require chilled storage at lower temperatures, items that are less temperature sensitive are stored at a higher temperature, thus conserving power.
