USAPEEC ASEAN

The Meat Traders Association of Singapore (MTA) celebrated its 20th Anniversary on June 11, 2022. Close to 400 guests representing the food industry and trade attended a special dinner reception held at the Amara Sanctuary Resort in Sentosa to mark the occasion. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Ms Grace Fu was the guest-of-honor. In attendance were foreign service diplomats, and representatives from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, Singapore Food Agency, NTUC-USME, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and USAPEEC.

Minister Fu delivered a rousing speech, addressing key challenges to Singapore’s food supply, and the importance of diversifying and improving food security. She highlighted the crucial roles that the government, MTA, and Poultry Merchants Association (PMA) play in this endeavor. MTA President Alvin Kwek shared the history of the Association, its role, and activities over the past two decades, including webinars organized with USAPEEC.

Formed in 2001, MTA currently has 80 members comprising mainly of meat importers and local meat traders. Its mission is to improve food resilience and security of Singapore through collaborations with various government entities and international associations.
