The free meal program, estimated to cost the government US$28 billion over five years, aims to combat malnutrition by delivering free, nutritious meals to about 82.9 million schoolchildren, pregnant women, and new mothers across the country by 2029. According to Musbar Mesdi, President of the Layer Farmers Association, the program has created significant opportunities for layer farmers. Layer farmers currently supply 1,875 tons of eggs weekly to 190 public kitchens, which is expected to expand to 5,000 by 2025. Deliveries twice a week provide steady income, while prices remain stable because of the country’s immense daily egg production of 18,200 tons from 5,766 farmers. Meanwhile, rural communities are inspired to engage in agriculture to benefit from the new opportunities.
