For people across the United States, the 4th of July marks Independence Day – a day of great national pride. It is also the perfect time to gather with friends and family for a summertime celebration full of activities – from parades to sports and eating contests, picnics, and backyard BBQs. Americans usually get into the holiday spirit by proudly wearing patriotic colors of the flag – red, white, and blue. But as always, it’s the food that takes center stage on Independence Day with classics like burgers, wings, hot dogs, and desserts marbled with red, white, and blue icing.

This can all be pretty overwhelming, especially for a first-time host. But, we’ve got you covered with no-fuss 4th of July appetizers and snacks that are easy and super-fast to prepare! These traditional American foods are designed to save you time in the kitchen, while delivering mouth-watering flavors that your guests will surely appreciate.

  1. Corn dogs
    Corn dogs are the quintessential American snack with the perfect blend of sweet and savory. It’s deep-fried with a crispy, golden-batter exterior, revealing a juicy hot dog in the center with every bite. Corn dogs are popular as they evoke nostalgic childhood memories. Think back to the good old days of laughing and chowing down hot dogs at amusement parks, county fairs, and backyard hangouts with your friends and family. Corn dogs are also incredibly simple to make. Start by making a batter with cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, pepper, milk, and egg. Coat the dry frankfurters with batter, then fry a few at a time in hot oil until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels, and the crispy corn dogs are ready to be devoured!

  2. Buffalo Chicken Wings
    Arguably the most American flavor out there, these wings are a must at any 4th of July celebration. It’s spicy and just flat-out delicious – your guests will enjoy the extra kick! To prepare buffalo wings, season the chicken with a dry seasoning mixture of baking powder, salt, and garlic powder, then deep fry or bake. By the way, buffalo sauce is actually hot sauce that’s been enhanced with butter and other ingredients. It’s most commonly associated with chicken wings, of course!

  3. Grilled Corn on the Cob
    Perhaps prepping for an elaborate All-American barbecue is too demanding for the occasion. But if you’re looking for a healthy alternative, Grilled Corn on the Cob is an excellent choice for a quick fix! It’s sweet and crunchy with a smoky char – what’s not to love? Plus, it only takes two steps to get it done. Preheat the grill for 10 minutes, cook the corn, turning it frequently until charred all over. Spread butter on the warm corn and season with salt and you’re good to go.

  4. S’mores
    After a full day of celebrations, what better way to end than with a harmonious blend of toasted marshmallows, decadent chocolate, and crispy crackers? S’more is a contraction of the phrase “some more” because it leaves you wanting exactly that. This irresistible delight will add another layer of sweetness to your day. It’s a fan-favorite among adults and children, and takes under 15 minutes to prepare. For a quick and satisfying s’more, break a graham cracker in half, place a chocolate square on one half, add a heated marshmallow, and top with the other cracker half. Press gently and enjoy the warm, melty goodness that’ll leave your guests asking for s’more.
